Marinode-ai App Privacy Policy
For the Marinode-ai team chat app on Android and iOS. What it collects, what it does not, and how to get your data deleted.
1) Which app this covers 🧭
This policy covers the mobile app published as Marinode-ai, package name com.marinode.zulip, published by Marinode AI Solutions LLP(“Marinode AI”, “we”, “us”), an Indian limited liability partnership. The app is a team chat client built on the open-source Zulip project.
It does not cover our other products, each of which has its own policy: the Engine Room Ninja platform and FillNode. If you are looking for one of those, this is not the right page.
2) How the app works 🔌
Please read this first — it explains everything below. Marinode-ai is a client. It does not have its own account system. You sign in to a chat server (a “realm”) that is operated either by your own organisation or by Marinode AI on your organisation’s behalf, and you enter that server’s address yourself.
Your messages and account live on that server, not on infrastructure the app controls independently. Where your employer or organisation runs the server, they are the data controller for its contents and their own policy governs it; we act as a processor where we host it for them. The app itself sends your data only to the server you signed in to, and to the push services described in section 5.
3) What the app handles 📥
- Account identity — your name, email address and avatar as held by the server you sign in to, so messages can be attributed to you.
- Authentication credentials — an API key issued by your server after sign-in, stored on your device so you stay signed in.
- Messages and content — the channel and direct messages you send and receive, plus any images, files or emoji reactions, cached on your device so the app works quickly and offline.
- Server address — the realm URL you enter, so the app knows where to connect.
- Push notification token — a device token used only to deliver notifications (section 5).
- Files you choose to attach — only the specific images or documents you pick when composing a message. The app does not browse or upload your gallery.
4) Device permissions 🔐
On Android the app declares exactly one permission: INTERNET, to reach your chat server. It requests notification and photo-picker access at the point of use through the operating system, and the app works if you decline them.
The app does not request location, contacts, calendar, microphone, SMS, call logs, or background access to your files.
5) Push notifications 🔔
To notify you of new messages while the app is closed, your server sends the notification through Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) on Android and the Apple Push Notification service on iOS. These services receive a device token and the notification payload in order to route it to your device.
Notification content may include the sender’s name and a message preview. If you do not want message content passing through these services, turn off notifications for the app in your device settings, or ask your server administrator to disable message previews.
6) What the app does not do 🚫
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. The app ships no Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Sentry, Mixpanel or equivalent.
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no data shared for cross-app tracking.
- No sale of personal data, and no sharing for advertising purposes.
- No use of your messages to train AI models.
- No WhatsApp, SMS or social-media account is connected by this app.
Firebase Cloud Messaging is included solely for push delivery (section 5), not for analytics.

Where your organisation runs its own server, its hosting arrangements are its own and are not listed here.
8) Security 🔒
- All traffic between the app and your server uses HTTPS/TLS.
- Your API key is held in the device’s app-private storage and is removed when you log out or uninstall.
- Where we host the server, data is held in PostgreSQL on servers we control, and production access is restricted to authorised Marinode AI personnel.
9) Retention and deletion 🗑️
Messages are retained on your chat server according to the retention policy your organisation sets. Data cached on your device is removed when you log out or uninstall the app.
To delete your account and data, follow the instructions on our Data Deletion page. You do not need to reinstall the app to make the request. Where your organisation controls the server, we will pass your request to them and support them in acting on it.
We acknowledge requests within 7 days and complete verified requests within 30 days, except where law requires us to keep something longer. Backups are overwritten on their normal cycle within 60 days.
10) Children 🧒
Marinode-ai is a workplace tool intended for use by adults in an organisational setting. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will remove the data.
11) Your rights ⚖️
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — and equivalent laws such as the GDPR and CCPA/CPRA where they apply — you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and may withdraw consent at any time. Use the contact details below or the Data Deletion page. We do not charge for these requests and will not discriminate against you for making one.
12) Changes 📝
Any change to this policy is posted on this page with an updated version and date. Material changes are announced in the app or by email before they take effect.
